When I turned fifteen, something came up in my mind and realized that one day I don’t want to become useless, a homeless man without food to eat kind of beggar. Also, I don’t want to become a drug addict and hated by the society.
So I decided to change my life. I quit smoking, and lessen my drinking habit, and then pushed myself to go to school again.
“In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b New International Version).
Let me share you words of God, three verses from the bible.
- Proverbs 1:10 “My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.”
- Proverbs 1:11 “If they say, “Come with us, Let us lie in wait to shed blood; Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause”
- Proverbs 1:15 “My son, do not walk in the way with them, Keep your foot from their path”
When I read these verses, my past reminds me, and I said to myself:
“I wish that my parents taught me about this”
“I wish that I have good parents to guide me; to teach me; to mold me” But I have nothing.
I went back to the bakery owner and asked them to help me in my schooling, and they said “YES” they are willing to help. The bakery owner taught me to bake and cook bread. In the morning, I supply bread in the small store owners from 04:30 in the morning up to 07:30 am, and then by 8:00 am, time for schooling and this is my third time as a freshman student. My new great life begins again… Yes! I found Hope.
I always came late in the class, the flag ceremony in our school begins at 07:20 in the morning and the class starts at 07:30 am. My school class adviser knows my situation, and she allows me to come late in this way. For the third time in first year high school; I was fifteen years old.
I can say that I am pleased, happy having my new batch mates. They are cool funny teen’s high school students, enjoying their life and days in the class. Our school advisers said: “We are the worst students that they ever handled” during their terms. High School life is the happiest and unforgettable moments that I have ever experienced.
My favorite subject during high-school was English, and I’m always at the Top 10 student of the class. One time I was at the Top 2, and I excelled most of my subjects. The only thing that bothered me during my school days was the financial status because projects were expensive. Sometimes, I don’t attend class and doing part-time jobs to cover up expenses.
After the class, at 5:00 in the afternoon, I baked bread and assisted the baker-owner up to 9:00 in the evening.
And by early morning at 2:00 am, I woke up to cook bread, at 4:30 am to 7:00 am; I sold bread to the stores.
It’s a daily routine, and I earned one hundred pesos every other day for the bread delivery plus twenty pesos a day as baker helper assistant. Let’s say (100 pesos x 15 days is equals to 1,500 pesos) + (20 pesos x 30days is equaled to 600 pesos), A total of 2,100 pesos per month. My monthly earnings were Two Thousand One Hundred Pesos.
Sometimes, I worked as a food server in catering services being my part-time job, and earning three hundred pesos per shift a 24-hour duty including work and rest time at the event, enough for me to support my schooling.
I must say that in life; ups and downs are normal, and life must go on. Sometimes you are at the top, and sometimes you are at the bottom. One day while I was walking down on the street, I saw a banner written: “If there’s a will, there’s a way”. I could not understand. I keep reading until I got the meaning and applied into my life. I am still very lucky and God making great things in my life.
